Initiative of SDGs

We invited Professor Hikiji from Kumamoto University as a guest lecturer and conducted an outreach class for 3rd and 4th graders on the theme “Fun Experiments for SDGs and Inquiry-Based Learning.”

At the Satsumasendai Genki Juku, we welcomed Kumiko Araki from the *Local Vitalization Cooperator as a lecturer, where all grade levels learned about the importance of water for human life.
*The Local Vitalization Cooperator (Chiiki Okoshi Kyouryoku-tai in Japanese) is a governmental program that aims at revitalizing depopulated regions by sponsoring people to relocate to these communities. Once chosen as members (or volunteers) of the Local Vitalization Cooperator, they live in a desired region for generally from one year to three years.

Students participate in activities to learn about the SDGs by playing commercially available SDG-themed board games and card games.

In our curriculum, we have intentionally incorporated SDG-related content and activities into the annual teaching plan, displaying the icons of the 17 goals to ensure systematic instruction.
Other Initiatives
As part of the “Hometown & Communication Studies” subject, students conduct inquiry-based learning on the SDGs (environmental education) with a focus on the nature, history, and culture of five school districts: Yorita, Soro, Nishikata, Yuda, and Mizuhiki.
