A delegation from the Netherlands visited our city
A delegation from the Kingdom of the Netherlands, a leading nation in circular economy, visited our city.
The Kingdom of the Netherlands has set a goal to achieve a fully circular economy by 2050. The government is working in collaboration with industry and civil society to promote the efficient use of resources and reduce waste, leading the world in such efforts.
This time, the Embassy of the Netherlands organized a tour to learn about Japan’s initiatives in the circular economy(Circular Architecture Study Tour). As part of this tour, the delegation visited companies and local governments implementing circular economy practices, including our city.
At the City Hall, Mayor Tanaka provided the 11 members of the Kingdom of the Netherlands delegation with an overview of our initiatives toward realizing the “Circular City Satsumasendai.” In response, the head of the delegation, Ms. Odilia KNAP (Deputy Director International affairs, director Bilateral affairs, Ministry for infrastructure and watermanagement), remarked that they aim to thoroughly observe not only national-level efforts but also local government initiatives and hope to continue collaborating in the future.
Afterward, the delegation visited sites within the city, including the residents assoiation waste collection point (Tsurumine Residents’ Association) and Circular Park Kyushu Co., Ltd., to observe our city’s resource circulation efforts firsthand.
